A few years ago, this project started as a roundtable discussion of Latin writing during lunch breaks. The idea was simple. Create a place for thinking. Eventually, this led to writing some blog posts.
We’ve decided to expand this into a literary journal at the intersection of thinking, classical texts, and lived experiences. Interactions with and allusions to primary source (latin/greek) classical texts are highly valued, though not necessary. We are accepting rolling submissions in three categories.
Analysis (non-fiction): interpretive essays, cultural criticism (art, literature, etc.; preferably interacting with some classical language or story), and lyric essays.
Translation (poetry or prose): Translations can be a part of a different piece, or can stand on their own. We are interested in dynamic translations that vividly bring the writing to a modern reader. Footnotes are allowed to explain certain choices. Please make sure to indicate the original primary source you are translating in your submission email.
Miscellaneous: If you have some other writing you’d like to submit that doesn’t fit neatly into one of the two above categories, you’re still free to submit.
Word limits: All categories have a 150-word minimum and 10,000-word maximum.
