We accept work at the intersection of thinking, classical texts, and lived experiences. Interactions with and allusions to primary-source (latin/greek) classical texts are highly valued, though not necessary.
Cardinal Guidelines
Do not submit AI-produced work.
Do submit finished work.
Please email a withdrawal immediately if you no longer want us to publish your work (Simultaneous is fine as long as you notify immediately).
Please do not submit work already published elsewhere.
Categories of work accepted
Analysis (non-fiction): interpretive essays, cultural criticism (art, literature, etc.; preferably interacting with some classical language or story), and lyric essays.
Translation (poetry or prose): Translations can be a part of a different piece, or can stand on their own. We are interested in dynamic translations that vividly bring the writing to a modern reader. Footnotes are allowed to explain certain choices. Please make sure to indicate the original primary source you are translating in your submission email.
Miscellaneous: If you have some other writing you’d like to submit that doesn’t fit neatly into one of the two above categories, you’re still free to submit.
We’re also open to accepting original Latin text, but please include some sort of english outline / description which defines the stylistic intent of your writing.

Rights
By submitting to Locus Cogitandi, you agree to grant us the following rights:
First North American Serial Rights (FNASR): This gives us the right to publish your work for the first time in North America. Once we publish your work, all rights revert to you. If you publish elsewhere, we request that you acknowledge Locus Cogitandi as the first publisher.
Archival Rights: We request the non-exclusive right to archive your work on our website indefinitely. This allows readers continued access to your work after the initial publication.
Anthology/Print Rights: We also request the non-exclusive right to include your work in any future Locus Cogitandi anthologies or collections, whether digital or print. Should we choose to include your work, we will notify you in advance.
